Pigmentation Treatment

Amelan - A miracle for pigmentation problems

Patchy overpigmentation (hyperpigmentation), particularly of the face is called melasma.

It can be a terribly disfiguring problem for some women and men and can occur in any skin type, but those with naturally darker skins are particularly prone to develop this problem.

It can be caused by sun exposure, trauma, inflammation in the skin and sometimes hormonal changes, which is why it can sometimes appear in women during pregnancy, when it is called cholasma.

Unfortunately, the overpigmented patches can be uneven, large, unsightly and very prominent, and once they have developed they can be permanent unless effective treatment is offered.

However, by far the treatment of choice for all types and degrees of overpigmentation  is a specific and dramatically effective treatment for overpigmentation which involves very little peeling.

It is called Amelan® and was developed in Venezuela where overpigmentation is a particular problem.

It is a rapid medical depigmentation treatment that is effective in all types of pigmentation problems, even in resistant cases that have failed all other types of treatment.

Sadly, most dermatologists in this country often seem to have a limited knowledge of effective treatments for overpigmentation and since it is not a ‘disease’, sometimes it may not even be considered to be a serious problem for a patient.

Often, nothing more than a thick camouflage or concealer cream is suggested as treatment.

Fortunately, there are now extremely effective treatments for this problem that will return the skin to its natural even colour and complexion, but sun avoidance and sun protection is an important part of the aftercare to avoid recurrence.

For minor degrees or small areas of overpigmentation, active skin care treatments can be prescribed and used at home to effectively treat the problem. Retinoids, C+AHA serum and Phyto+  depigmenting serum can be used in combination to achieve effective results.

It can be applied in any season and is compatible with all types and shades of skin.

It permits some sun exposure without the risk of recurrence.

It is completely safe and the pigmented patches will usually disappear in little over one week.

There are minimal side effects (only slight redness and flaking) and there is a regularisation of sebaceous secretion resulting in reduction of any excessive oiliness and improvement of any acne problems.

The skin becomes bright, rejuvenated and free from abnormal pigmentation, usually in just 10 to 14 days.

From the first day after treatment, make-up can be worn, if required, without any problems.

For all of these reasons, we regard Amelan as the safest and most effective solution, and by far the treatment of choice, for any kind of overpigmentation affecting any skin type.

Medical skin peels, combined with the use of depigmenting creams can also sometimes be effectively used, in appropriate cases, for the treatment of this problem.
