Lipotherapy
Reduction of resistant, small, localised fat deposits without surgery.
Fat deposits stored under the skin in certain body areas are relatively diet resistant. This is because as we put on weight, the fat cells under the skin divide and the layer of stored fat becomes thicker.
However the blood supply and circulation to these areas does not increase in a corresponding way and the fat cells therefore become more remote from the circulation.
This remote (avascular) fat tissue then tends to become fibrous and calcified, further impeding the circulation.
The result is that we may have certain fatty stores under the skin where it is very difficult for that fat to be released into the bloodstream through the normal processes of metabolism.
We may have an excess of such resistant fat in certain areas, even though we may not be overweight. Further weight loss will be undesirable if we are at or below normal weight. However, we may still have stubborn areas of localised, resistant fat which spoil our appearance or body shape. Such areas are commonly under the chin, on the lower parts of the tummy, love handles, hips and inner or outer thighs.
Furthermore, as we age, the distribution of the fatty layer under the skin on our face shifts, and this contributes to an older appearance.
A younger face is oval in shape with a smooth tight jawline and full, high cheeks due to the fullness of the fatty layer under the skin.
As part of the aging process, we lose fat from the upper cheeks, which then become hollower and deposit it much lower on the jawline, where it begins to appear as jowls.
This spoils the smooth contour of the jawline and results in a much squarer and ‘heavier’ appearance to the lower part of the face which considerably ages our appearance.
Fortunately, we are now at a stage where we can intervene effectively to correct these problems in a minimally invasive way, without resorting to any form of surgery.
Research and technology are at a stage where we can use several effective non-surgical techniques to effectively reduce localised pockets of subcutaneous fat on the face and body.
Furthermore, some of these methods will also stimulate skin tightening through new collagen production. This is particularly useful in the jawline where often a combination of jowl reduction and skin tightening are required to produce the best results and the most youthful appearance.
Dr Palmer is regarded as one of the most knowledgeable and experienced doctors in the UK with such non invasive cosmetic fat reduction and facial shaping treatments. He has been invited as an expert to lecture about these techniques to the cosmetic conference of the Royal Society of Medicine and to many other prestigious medical and surgical conferences in both Europe and the USA. He has published independently peer-reviewed articles in the respected medical and cosmetic surgical literature regarding these treatment methods and he has act as an expert witness regarding this subject because of his extensive knowledge and experience.
Regulations regarding medicines advertising in this country prevent us from being more specific about certain treatments on this public website, but during a personal consultation, we can advise you regarding different treatment options and the best and least invasive solution to your problem.
